What is the truth about Antimicrobials?
The truth is buried somewhere out there among all the marketing claims,
the hype about germs, what is truly safe to use yet effective against the germs we should be concerned about. And, should
you be buying these products that are "Protected By" in the first place? Should you be worried about the microbes
that you are coming into contact with? Yes, some of these are microbes you should be concerned about, MRSA, Black Mold to
name a few, are causes for deep concern in many areas we live, work, play and expect to go to get well when we are sick. But
what you're not being told is there are types of Antimicrobials on the market. Leaching and Bonded
Maybe to step back and say, how can the use of a leaching biocide to poison the microbes
be beneficial? Some say the good that is done outweighs the potential for harm. But if you ask yourself, how can introducing
a leaching chemical into the environment, into your body be good for you? many say it can't, and we simply don't know enough
about what we're potentially creating, or have already created. As you read blogs and articles published about the widespread
adoption of the use of antimicrobials by companies who desire to make claims of effectiveness there are also increased awareness
and questions being asked, what are we really doing to ourselves and the world we live in?
As important to note, many bloggers are asking; Ok so the product is "Protected with",
but what is the
actual chemical used in your branded antimicrobial / antibacterial product that allows you to make these claims of "Protection",
why is it not on the label, why are we not being told? One such Brand of "Protected by" is all over consumer products,
it's in plastics, it's in the knifes we prepare our food with it, it's "Protecting" our pets food and water supply.
But not on one single product label does it say what is this chemistry that leaches off or out of the product to "Protect
it"? And what could be the concerns, if any for our health down the road by using these products? One blogger wrote,
at least with a drug your told of potential side effects, but not with these products that are "Protected by" they
only need to prove they work and get a registration to make these claims. One product widely associated with a major brand
is now being reviewed by the FDA after years of petitioning by environmental groups. The product is called Triclosan, and
it has been known by many experts to be a potential for risk for years, yet it was still being used by this brand to "Protect"
the items you buy up until recently, or is it still? We don't know because it is not common practice to disclose the product
on the label.
The Tile Doctor, in an effort to lead as the
most environmentally friendly company on the market has introduced a product for hard surfaces that has no potential for legacy
environmental concerns, it doesn't leach, because it is not a biocide. It is basically sand, wood and nitrogen, but is so
effective it has been widely used by some of the most respected companies in the world for years on textiles. We have placed
our comparison chart below and also some links to allow you to read the opinions of others, read for yourself, join in our
movement to use something safe and effective for microbial control.
